And now for something completely different.
Some days ago when we were in one of those Visitor Centers we like to...visit, we picked up a Branson brochure. The Osmonds (3 of the brothers) it seems were performing at the Andy Williams Moon River Theater.
The questioning from Karen starts out with, "How close will we be to Branson?"
I guess, 40 miles.
"How's our finances doing this month?"
And on it goes until we get to the REAL question she wants to ask.
"Do you wanna go see the Osmonds at the Andy Williams theater?"
Suuuuurrrrre.
We started reviewing our itinerary and we worked things out so that we could go. The show was at 8pm in the evening so it really wouldn't interfere with any of our daytime touring.
A day later she's now talking about a musical called "Jonah" that looks pretty interesting. It plays at 3:30pm. We COULD do BOTH. THIS is why we're retired. Let's do it.
In the morning we take in a Civil War battlefield called Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Since we were the only ones there at 9am, they showed the movie just for us and then we took the 5 mile drive around the area.
We took some back roads toward Branson and headed for the box office for Jonah. Got our tickets and proceeded to drive around and see what's been changed since the last time we were here.
LOTS has changed. Theater names have changed. New buildings are up.
One thing that hasn't change though is that we still didn't get to ride the wooden roller coaster that is here. It has opened AND closed since we were here last.
Jonah was a spectacular play with an excellent cast of about 75 people. The play was performed on the front stage as well as on two side stages. The sets were amazing.
The ship "set" that Jonah sailed on moved across the stage, moved upstage, turned 180 degrees, moved downstage again, then exited the way it came in. This all happened with actors on the ship. This had a big "WOW" factor.
It was a great production and well worth our time.
After a quick dinner we made our way toward the Moon River Theater about an hour early. There was a gift shop and pictures on the walls that we needed to look at.
The show was everything we wanted it to be. It was sort of like a variety show. The opening act was a comedian illusionist who was wonderfully funny and entertaining.
The 3 Osmonds and 3 Lennon Sisters were on and off the stage together and alone. Both groups are known for their harmonies and the vocals were spot on tonight.
3 of the granddaughters of the Lennon Sisters (aged 9 - 15) came on and did a song and dance routine as well. They were good and are young and still learning.
The second half was more of the same and equally as entertaining. I had a smile on my face the whole night and I may have even helped them with the words by lip syncing to the a song or two. Since we were in the second row I'm sure it helped.
I hope we look back on this decision and realize that we are retired and we can make ourselves happy over and over again.
